Pensacola is known for its blue skies and blue waters.
But there’s another ‘something blue’ we take a lot of pride in here – the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, known as the Blue Angels.
Our Blues make their hometown here in Pensacola, or ‘The Cradle of Naval Aviation’ as the city is called. All Naval Aviators go through school here, so we see a lot of military aircraft undergoing flight training in these friendly skies.
Yet some of the the best shows come from the Blue Angels, who can often be seen zooming above our shores in fine formation during the summer and fall.
They take off from Naval Air Station Pensacola, which is located just across the bay from our beautiful beach.
In the summer, the Blues are the headliner of the Pensacola Beach Air Show that takes place in mid-July. Thousands of spectators come out to enjoy the show by land or by boat. It’s a great time to book a stay in our Pensacola Beach hotel.
If you prefer to avoid the crowds, you can also see the Blues during practices throughout the year. These are especially fun to watch from the National Naval Aviation Museum onboard NAS Pensacola, where you can view them from the flight line and sometimes have a chance to meet the team!

The Blues perform in air shows across the country during the summer, then return for a Homecoming Show in Pensacola each November.
Any day you see our Blue Angels flying over the Gulf of Mexico is a good day.
